Filtered Access
ComStar USA
offer both an unfiltered and filtered service to
accommodate any customer requirement.
ComStar USA Filtered Access Dial-Up service gives
customers the option to activate dial-up accounts, either
analog or ISDN, through a filtered access service.
Filtered Access provides "Family Friendly" or
"G-rated" access control for the end-user.
Dial-up customers do not have direct control or override
capability for this service, making it secure and safe for
consumer use.
StarNet™ maintains all of the applicable access
restrictions via an X-Stop™
filter server. This filtering approach removes the filter
equipment from any inclusion in the connection path, as
the connection never flows through the filter equipment.
Instead, it monitors the connections invisibly and filters
them without being involved in the connection itself. If
the filter equipment were to become inactive for any
reason, the network flow proceeds as it normally would,
but is unfiltered.
This approach also removes any performance
considerations about the filter equipment and the network
performance. Since this type of filtering does not require
the filter equipment to be included anywhere in the
network path physically or logically, there is no chance
of the performance of filtered or unfiltered connections
being affected in any way by the performance of the filter
equipment itself. It is totally transparent to both ends
of the network communication. There is no performance
change before or after connecting the filter equipment and
using it for filtering.
